We are at a time right now where being thankful can be pretty tricky. You might not feel grateful, thankful, or even blessed with all that is happening around us at the moment, and I don't blame you; things are tough. But things are not changing anytime soon. So why not have a practice in place that will help you feel more at ease and happier through these tough times?
Growing up with three neurological disabilities, one of which is neuromuscular ( cerebral palsy ), I didn't accept myself or my life. I was bullied and teased in school, making me feel very low, and I hated myself even more. As I grew older, this would only get worse. In September of 2012, I would attempt suicide for the last time; as I stepped back onto the subway platform, little did I know this final attempt would be the beginning of my gratitude journey.
One year later, in 2013, I would have a series of surgeries for my seizures that would be unsuccessful but would turn out to be the most successful surgeries. As I lie there in the hospital, I would promise to be grateful for all that I am and all I have. I am thankful for my beautiful, messy life every day, and I teach others to be grateful like you every day and embrace your beautiful mess every day.
